World Book Day - Well done Year 7 and 8!
The Y7 and Y8 students were given the challenge to read 10 million words in just 11 days (24th February to 5th March) for World Book Day. To give you a rough idea, that’s the equivalent of reading War and Peace twice every day. The students weren’t too sure to begin with but as the numbers started going up and they were quickly hitting a new million milestone every day, they soon got excited. Yesterday during period 4 the Y7s who struggle the most with their reading pushed us over the 10 million word goal. They got so excited that they had done it. They left the library full of pride, confidence and excitement. Well done to all Y7 and 8 students!
February Half Term School Sessions
Ensuring Year 11 students are successful in their GCSE studies is a priority for us at Thamesview School and to support this there will be a programme of half term school sessions to further support students in attaining the best possible outcomes in their examinations. Please note the sessions are open to all students, however if the class teacher feels it is important that your child attends then you will receive a separate letter from the subject leader/director of the respective department advising you so. Changes to the school day from January 2020
Over the past term I have received numerous enquiries from parents regarding the lunch time arrangements. I have also been informed by Sodexo that it has become increasingly difficult to serve all students in one lunch session. As a result of the aforementioned points and the increase in student numbers it has therefore become necessary to make changes to the structure of the school day. The school day will still start at 8:35 am and end at 2:55 pm. However the Form session will move to the middle of the day and a split lunch session will be introduced. The table below illustrates the outline of the school day which will come into effect from 6th January 2020. Years 7, 9 and 11 Years 8, 10, 12 and 13 Period 1 – 8:35 to 9:35 Period 1 – 8:35 to 9:35 Period 2 – 9:35 to 10:35 Period 2 – 9:35 to 10:35 Break – 10:35 to 10:55 Break – 10:35 to 10:55 Period 3 – 10:55 to 11:55 Period 3 – 10:55 to 11:55 Period 4 – 11:55 to 12:55 Period 4 – 11:55 to 12:55 Lunch – 12:55 to 13:25 Form – 12:55 to 13:25 Form – 13:25 to 13:55 Lunch – 13:25 to 13:55 Period 5 – 13:55 to 14:55 Period 5 – 13:55 to 14:55 The main purpose of this change is to ensure that all students receive sufficient time to eat their lunch meal and that the health and safety of each student is secure with the increase in student numbers. Students will be informed about these changes over the next week. Mr George Rorke Headteacher
