WHY ATTENDANCE MATTERS

All students at Thamesview School are expected to aim for 100% attendance if they are to fulfil their learning potential. There is a direct correlation between high attendance and high academic attainment.

90% attendance sounds positive, but in reality, it means your child misses a half-day of school every single week.

PUNCTUALITY

All students need to be in school and in lessons on time. Students who constantly arrive late for school and lessons disrupt their own learning along with their peers.

Arrival Time: Students should arrive in school for 8:20 am.

Consequences: Persistent lateness will result in detentions and other sanctions being put in place.

MEDICAL INFORMATION

Medical Evidence

Where there is medical evidence supporting your child's absence, please contact the attendance team via email or the MCAS app to provide documentation.

Accepted documentation includes:

Letter from a medical professional.

Appointment card with name, date, and time.

Copy of prescription or prescribed medication label.

Medical Appointments

Wherever possible, all medical appointments should be taken outside of school time.

If an appointment during school hours is unavoidable, please provide evidence in advance. Students should return to school immediately following their appointment.

Feeling Unwell at School

Should a student feel unwell at school, the first point of contact will be the Attendance Officer, who will determine after a discussion with the student if they are unable to continue with the school day.

Parental Contact: Contact with home must be made before any student leaves the site.

Contact Details: Please ensure we always have your correct home and mobile numbers on file.

HOLIDAYS & TERM TIME

Parents should not arrange holidays during term times.

In exceptional circumstances, a leave of absence request must be submitted in advance to the Headteacher. Unauthorised absences may incur a Fixed Penalty Notice.
