Thamesview School Year 11 Data Analysis of GCSE Results
Context
The 2022 cohort had a lower KS2 APS on entry to Thamesview than the 2019 cohort. Despite this and significant disruption throughout their Year 10 curriculum and their Year 11 curriculum they have achieved significantly better.
Attendance due to the pandemic is an important part of context, 49% of the 2022 cohort had attendance lower than the 95% benchmark for strong chance of KS4 success. Students with attendance below 95% have an average Progress Eight score of -0.53, students who attended and accessed the curriculum at Thamesview at the required level of attendance through the Pandemic have a P8 score of -0.19. This score represents the impact of the curriculum in place for the students attending. This represents a sizeable improvement from a P8 score of -0.77 in 2019.
The students had an extensive programme of catch-up intervention which consisted of Saturday sessions, holiday sessions and after school sessions throughout the Key Stage. The impact of staff attendance on student outcomes is also important context, some staff were very ill with Covid and subject areas where staff absence was highest, have added less value/made less progress than other subjects where staffing had greater stability.
Local Kent data shows that Thamesview performed positively in comparison to many other Kent schools including a mixture of selective and non-selective schools. Thamesview students made better progress in 2022 in relative terms against prior attainment before starting at Thamesview than a range of selective and non-selective schools across Kent.
The P8 score for Thamesview in 2022 places the school in the same outcome bracket as 87% of schools nationally in 2022 by outcome range.
The Thamesview 2022 outcomes also include a range of students that although counted in Thamesview figures never completed their KS4 curriculum at Thamesview and were completely taught and completely learnt at other centres. The school made frequent and regular attempts to engage these students in learning and to support both their wellbeing and progression. The P8 for Thamesview excluding students that were never taught on site by Thamesview staff is -0.39. This is a great improvement on students’ progress from previous years. This confirms that the school has achieved better than its pre-Covid times of 2019 in all areas. Students have achieved better in grades 5+ including English and Maths in 2022 than 2018 and 2019 examination years.
Although, the Ebacc entries for 2021 (8%) is lower than pre-pandemic 2019 session. Thamesview School Ebacc entries has increased in 2022/23 (16.67%) with a further increase in 2023/24 (18.28%).
