Y11 information on grades and exams

Year 11 Target Grades and Thamesview School Sixth Form

Dear Parents and Carers,

I hope that you and your families are well and staying safe.

At Thamesview School we are committed to meeting the needs of all of our students and supporting them as they move on to the next level of their education.

We are aware that some students and parents have been making enquiries about predicted grades for their post-16 applications. As is common in many other schools, we will not be issuing predicted grades for our Year 11 students. I can assure you that this will not hinder students in any way. Due to the nature of this academic year, the unprecedented disruptions that have taken place and the incomplete mock exams, we would be doing our students a disservice to offer a predicted grade at this time.

We understand that students will need a collection of grades to present to post-16 providers to support applications and so will be issuing all Year 11 students with a set of revised target grades. These will take into account the student’s end of year expected grade in conjunction with the teacher’s assessment of their progress and learning from the course so far. This set of grades can then be used to support post-16 application.

It is important to note that teachers are not allowed to offer information about firm grades to students as per government guidance and the revised target grades may well be different to the grade achieved in the final GCSE results. We continue to have substantial parts of the courses to teach to students and must take this potential further progress into account as we move forward.

The revised target grades will be going out to Year 11 students alongside their online engagement report by the end of January, 2021.

I hope this clarifies any concerns or questions you had regarding Year 11 predicted grades. Please do not hesitate to contact me on d.okagbare@thamesview.kent.sch.uk, if you have any more questions.

Thamesview School Sixth Form Admission

At Thamesview we have a comprehensive, full and exciting Sixth Form offer which allows us the opportunity to further support your Son/Daughter in taking the best next steps.

It is reassuring for our students to know that we are in a position to offer the best future for the next stage of their academic life.  Despite the upheaval of the pandemic and the disrupted learning, we KNOW our students already and what they are capable of, therefore we are in a position to offer a place whereas other schools may not be. In times of much uncertainty, we CAN offer certainty for Sixth Form.

All that aside, the Sixth Form at Thamesview has an excellent success rate and last year’s results were amongst the highest in Kent putting us well above Kent averages.  We have had a 100% pass rate for the past 2 years with one third of the cohort going off to study at their first choice university.

We are also one of the few schools that offer a foundation year for those students who may not get the GCSEs needed for Level 3 qualifications.  It’s called Pathway C in the application process and it is an opportunity for these students to acquire the necessary skills and knowledge while still gaining valuable level 2 qualifications and work experience.

In the meantime, please do take a look at our prospectus https://www.canva.com/design/DAENq_uTFxI/AfHVKx-VnKFu_-wbreIgoA/view and also our virtual tour/ open day https://www.thamesviewsch.co.uk/589/virtual-tour-1.

Kind Regards,

Mrs D Okagbare
