Enrichment and Charity

Thamesview is very proud of the clubs it provides for its students. Every day, there are a variety of clubs that run during lunch and after school, all of which are free. Many clubs also enable students to participate in competitions and events outside of school which broadens and enriches their student experience.

Charity and Volunteering

At Thamesview School we believe charity awareness is important. Participating in charitable activities is vital in developing a sense of citizenship and in promoting a broader sense of social responsibility. The benefits of these activities are not always academically self-evident but it can be said that they bring a sense of common purpose and help to build a strong school ethos.

Thamesview has a fantastic charity calendar with lots of exciting fundraising events. They are not only fun but also raise awareness of where the money is going and how it will affect real lives. We raise money through non-uniform days, read-a-thons,  staff vs student competitions, concerts, bake sales, raffles and staff dance offs – which are always fun and well attended. Our Student Council and the Charity Group work tirelessly to organise creative and entertaining events.

Each academic year, students submit and vote for a year group charity that they would like to support. This year, our students chose:

Year 7

Greyhound Trust

Year 8

Demelza Hospice

Year 9

Children with Cancer

Year 10

Teenage Cancer Trust

Year 11

Young Minds

In addition to these charities, Thamesview also has charities that we raise money for annually. These include the Poppy Appeal, Children in Need, Red Nose Day/Sports Relief and World Book Day.

Money Raised So Far This Year: £4081.35

Thamesview’s emphasis on charity goes further than raising money. It also highlights the importance of giving back to the community through volunteering. Students give their time in a variety of different activities and events including Duke of Edinburgh, peer-to-peer reading, library helpers, parent evenings and running clubs. Through volunteering, students learn organisational skills, patience, responsibility and selflessness.

So far this year, our students have given a total of 1005 hours of their time!
