Careers at Thamesview

The Careers Programme at Thamesview is designed to provide all students with the education, information, advice and guidance to help them make the right career decisions.  The programme aims to raise aspirations and support students to achieve their full potential whilst they are in school and also in their future career paths.

All students have access to independent, impartial careers guidance.  They also benefit from a dedicated Careers Department in school who have a breadth of experience and knowledge.  In 2010, Thamesview was awarded the Investor in Careers award, a quality award which certifies that we have “achieved the most exacting standards of excellence in careers education and guidance.”  The School is reassessed against the standards every three years and was successful again in April 2013 and 2016. Thamesview has also been awarded the Kent Careers and Work Related Learning Award: Triple A, and was successfully assessed for this in September 2014.

There is a focus on making all students aware of the opportunities that Further and Higher Education has to offer.  Strong links with local schools, colleges and universities provide up to date information and the chance for students to experience at first hand a range of aspects including university life.  All students are guided and supported through the 6th form and/or college application process via a series of activities including a PHSE day, university visits, individual guidance and Post 16 options evening.

Alongside activities relating to Further and Higher Education are work-related learning activities, providing insight into career progression beyond education. Year 10 undertake a full week of work experience in a range of professions, both locally in the borough and further afield in Kent, Medway and central London.  Links with local and larger corporate employers are utilised to raise awareness of the different routes into professions such as accountancy, law, and engineering – as well as more practical placements in industries such as construction, mechanics and hair and beauty.  Thamesview also have a successful annual Mock Interview programme where all year 10 students have the opportunity to take part in an interview with a local business person or employer.

Opportunities for the future are ever increasing and the process of finding your desired path can be confusing and stressful, but our expert team takes pride in guiding students through this.
